All the variants are viable (especially with Talon's Hold), but I wouldn't say that any of them are especially powerful (besides, regardless of which skill you focus in, you'll most likely end up using all of them in the end). The other choices are AoD (jump attack with poison damage you'll get far fewer attacks than with massacre but more focussed damage) and Parasite (somewhat more practical than the other skills more like a traditional melee skill).
